I remember
Pretending to sing
The holy language
Until the lights went up.
I remember
Hearing why I hid my scars
In my father’s shirt sleeves.
I remember
staying in
while the rest of them
stayed out past their bedtime.
I remember
how they
Dove off the deep end
beer in hand
& I remember
how I
dove off stage
with members of the band
